Traveller Information

Traveling to Bhutan is a unique experience, and a little preparation goes a long way in making your journey smooth and enjoyable.

Visa & Entry Requirements

All international visitors (except citizens of India, Bangladesh, and Maldives) require a visa to enter Bhutan. This is arranged in advance through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator like CAT Bhutan.

You don’t need to apply yourself—we handle the entire visa process for you once your trip is confirmed.

Sustainable Development Fee (SDF)

Bhutan has a daily Sustainable Development Fee of $200 set by the government. This contributes to free healthcare, education, and environmental conservation in the country.

Your tour package will clearly include this fee—there are no hidden costs.

Best Time to Visit

Bhutan is beautiful year-round, but each season offers something different:

  • Spring (March–May): Clear skies, blooming landscapes
  • Autumn (Sept–Nov): Festivals, crisp mountain views
  • Winter (Dec–Feb): Quiet, peaceful, fewer visitors
  • Summer (June–Aug): Lush greenery, occasional rain

We help you choose the right time based on your interests.

Health & Safety

Bhutan is considered one of the safest travel destinations. Still:

  • Travel insurance is strongly recommended
  • Some areas are at higher altitudes—take time

Currency & Payments

  • Local currency: Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN)
  • Indian Rupees are widely accepted
  • Credit cards are accepted in some hotels, but cash is useful

Connectivity

Wi-Fi is available in most hotels, though speeds may vary.
Mobile data SIM cards can be arranged locally if needed.
