Experience Bhutan through its living culture

Bhutan is a land of festivals

When people think of Bhutanese festivals, they often picture colourful masked dancers performing in the courtyard of an ancient dzong. The sacred dances, or cham, are indeed an important part of Bhutanese religious festivals. Many tshechus have their roots in Vajrayana Buddhist traditions and are celebrated in honour of important Buddhist masters and teachings. But Bhutan’s festival culture is much broader.

Throughout the year, communities across the Kingdom gather to celebrate faith, history, nature, agriculture, traditional lifestyles and the bonds that bring people together. From sacred Buddhist festivals held in magnificent dzongs and monasteries to highland celebrations in remote mountain villages, each festival offers a different glimpse into the soul of Bhutan.

For travellers, these celebrations are an invitation to experience Bhutan beyond its famous landscapes and monuments.

At CAT Bhutan, we specialise in creating meaningful journeys around Bhutan’s festivals, allowing our guests to combine cultural celebrations with sightseeing, trekking, nature, wildlife, local food and authentic community experiences.

Hear the drums. See the colours. Taste the local food. Meet the communities. Discover the stories. Experience Bhutan as the Bhutanese experience it.
