Punakha Dromchoe & Tshechu
History, Faith and Architecture
Few festival settings in Bhutan are as spectacular as Punakha Dzong.
Standing between the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, the dzong provides the setting for the Punakha Dromchoe and Punakha Tshechu. Punakha Dromchoe commemorates Bhutan’s historical victory over Tibetan forces in the 17th century, with performances inspired by events from that period.
